Same-Day POS Platform Validation with T-Plan Robot

Operating hundreds of stores across the United States, Shoe Carnival relies on its point-of-sale systems to support daily retail operations, customer transactions and in-store service delivery.

When the IT team needed rapid validation of a critical point-of-sale platform upgrade, there was little spare QA capacity available and limited time to complete a full manual regression cycle.

Using an existing T-Plan Robot regression suite, the team automated over 100 transactions across 28 test scenarios, reducing validation time from up to 60 minutes to approximately 10 minutes.

The Challenge

  • Critical POS platform migration
  • No spare QA resource
  • 60-minute manual regression cycle
  • Same-day validation required

Solution

  • Existing T-Plan Robot suite
  • 28 automated POS scenarios
  • 100+ transactions validated
  • Regression completed in ~10 minutes

The Challenge: Validating a Critical POS Upgrade

The IT team required immediate confirmation that a 32-bit to 64-bit POS platform conversion had not impacted core transaction workflows. At the same time, the lead QA analyst was fully engaged on another major project and could not absorb an additional manual regression cycle.

Traditional testing required repetitive interaction with every POS screen and transaction path, typically consuming 45–60 minutes per execution.

With limited QA resources available, the team needed a faster way to validate the upgrade without delaying other business-critical projects.

"I had the suite already built. I just kicked it off, and by the time the developer stopped by to ask how it was going, it was already done."

The Solution: Rapid POS Regression Validation

Rather than creating new test assets, the QA team leveraged an existing T-Plan Robot suite covering 28 core point-of-sale scenarios.

Once the environment was updated to the new 64-bit build, the suite was executed immediately. More than 100 transactions were validated automatically, with no script redevelopment, manual data entry or intervention required.

The complete regression cycle finished in approximately 10 minutes and provided full execution logs and results on the same day the request was raised.

Because the automation suite had already been built and validated, the team was able to respond immediately to the platform upgrade request without disrupting existing QA activities.

The same reusable tests can now support future releases, helping reduce regression effort and improve release confidence across ongoing POS updates.

Conclusion

By implementing T-Plan Robot, Shoe Carnival transformed a potentially disruptive platform validation exercise into a routine automated process.

An existing regression suite enabled over 100 POS transactions to be executed in approximately 10 minutes, delivering an 80% reduction in testing time while freeing QA resources to focus on higher-value activities.

The result is a repeatable approach to POS validation that supports future platform changes, accelerates release confidence and reduces the operational burden of manual regression testing.
